It’s true; I don’t have to leave the comfort of home to find lovely vintage-looking props to use for the wedding. It turns out those boxes we have yet to unpack hold treasures that are perfect for our day! And, I might be a little obsessed with fabric flower making.
Back to unpacking. It’s funny how things look differently three years later.
Five things I detested as a child but love as an adult:
1. Peanut butter-I never ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich until I was twenty six. I hated peanut butter, except with chocolate {doesn’t chocolate make everything more palatable?}.
2. Tomatoes- then, ewwwwww. Now, yum.
3. Onions & mushrooms- my poor parents. What did I eat back then? For the record, I still won’t eat those slimy mushrooms from a can.
4. Naps- no explanation needed, I’m sure.
5. Boys-I’ve decided a couple of them are okay.
What are your five?
I could be just a normal, everyday-kind-of girl shopping the fabric section for party decorations or perhaps a pattern for a bright, shiny new dress. But when I mention that I’m buying for my wedding: suddenly I’m a blushing bride. Suddenly, the fabric clerk’s eyes sparkle with a glint of awe and interest. And, suddenly, I am more interesting. Sometimes they ask when the wedding is. Sometimes they ask to see the ring or what my theme is. They always ask. They always chatter away happily, lost in the romantic idea of young lovers coming together in wedded bliss and living happily ever after {oh, if they only knew one of these “young lovers” has been down the aisle before and the other is a tad bit older than she appears-would they be as giddy?}.
I sometimes feel a little offended {after the moment of blush}. Why am I suddenly more interesting once they know that someone wants to spend the rest of his life with me or that we’re having a party to celebrate? We’ve lived together for seven years and I’ve always known that he was “the one.” So, why then, am I suddenly more interesting now that there’s a sparkly ring on my finger and a date has been set?
Everyone loves a bride. Or maybe everyone is just enchanted by a wedding-a fancy party with pretty decorations and slices of cake, and some dancing. Maybe, everyone loves the hope that weddings represent. Hope for a future filled with love, togetherness, children {in some cases}, and hope that every night for the rest of their lives the bride will have a hand to hold, a cheek to kiss, and loud snoring to keep her awake for most the night.
Whatever the reason, I am happy to be the center of attention for those few moments of genuine curiosity. Since it’s a long engagement I have a whole year to be more interesting and even after that I’ll be able to say “we were just married,” or “our wedding was lovely” and the enchantment will linger.
Or, I’ll answer too many questions about baby carriages….hmmmmmm.
Another possible title for this post? How many times can Gina use the word lovely?
I managed to drag Thom along on a wedding-thrifting weekend. Surprisingly {to me, at least} he wasn’t nearly as excited as I was. To his credit, he grew up in the flea market business and he’s seen-it-all and done-it-all but I am still a little excitable since I’m new to it.
I could easily fill a couple of trucks with some awesome finds but alas, groceries are essential for survival and another set of drinking glasses is not.
I did, however, have my camera in hand as I made my way through my new favorite antique mall-Arkansas Peddlers Antique Mall. Here is what I drooled over {hmmmm, I wonder if there’s a discount for drool-stained vintage wares? nice strategy, eh?}.
I’m not really in the market for a bow tie but how adorable is a metal tray full of bow-tie cuteness?
I’d L O V E to have this sofa for wedding portraits. At $450 I thought it was totally reasonable. Hauling it to Michigan? Not so much.
This is my favorite booth. It’s full of girly pink vintage goodness including jewelry {I’ve bought a few brooches and earrings for the bouquet} and some lovely sequined clutches. Also-it has a lovely set of vintage monogrammed Samsonite luggage that would make for lovely honeymoon packing.
My kitchen is currently overflowing with drinking glasses and coffee mugs. If it were not: these lovely orange juice glasses and red doily {!!} Fire King mugs would have come home with me.
You know what makes me happy? Yep. A metal bin full of rolling pins and red-handled kitchen utensils.
I’ve seriously been dreaming about this teal colored polka dotted Pyrex. Is it not the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen? I dare you to say no. I just can’t justify $21, though so I’ll settle for visiting it every chance I get. This booth is overflowing with cute vintage aprons and sewing notions. I could pack it all up and bring it home, too.
I could go on and on for days with the fun finds at Arkansas Peddlers Antique Mall. I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of my faves in the months to come.
One of my favorite things about Pinterest is that it covers everything from throwing a fancy dinner party to how to shave your dog. If you can think it, chances are someone has pinned it.
My pins lately are almost always wedding related but I also use Pinterest to better my blog. This week’s Pin it & Spin it was a last minute project started in the wee hours of Saturday morning-probably way too early to try my hand at coding CSS.
