Family Birthday Traditions

Missing out on our family birthday traditions is one of the things I miss most about living near family and friends back in Michigan. We used to celebrate birthdays on Sundays with the birthday person’s favorite meal, cake (usually homemade by me), and ice cream. Sunday always meant NFL football on in the background and the guys cheering loudly for a win, or commiserating over a Lion’s loss.

I’m so thrilled that my parents are spending the fall in Arkansas as they begin their retirement travel adventure. It means that I will spend both mom’s and dad’s birthday with them! It’s been ten years since I’ve celebrated their birthdays in person. Dad’s birthday is this week and we were able to spend time together over the weekend.
