If you came into my office today, you were greeted by this dude…and me saying….”That’s the money you’d save shopping at TJ Maxx….and then I’d giggle hysterically. I’m easily amused.

…Meet my New Friends
It’s beginning to look a lot like Wild America around here.
Not that one should play favorites with new friends….but I just love this other new friend I made while I was in Michigan. We met in the garden section of Meijer. His name is Otto. {Hmmm…I’m sensing a trend with all my new male friends}. And, again, for the record, Mr. Meijer…please, please bring Meijer to Arkansas!
…What I’ll do to get on Idol
You may remember that I work in Conway {an hour away from Heber}…home of American Idol finalist Kris Allen. I was excited when I heard that Idol would be in town filming the hometown parade….and I would actually be able to head downtown to check things out.
It was a fun afternoon. It seems that the whole of Conway turned out to see their hometown hero….and everyone seemed to know him personally, either from school or from church and I heard nothing but good things about him all day long. He’s definitely my fave of the final three {I was rooting for Anoop}. Although…I thought perhaps he could’ve worn a cleaner shirt.
I waited along the parade route, smooshed up against a fence for a couple of hours. The local Fox affiliate, Fox 16 news had crews out exciting the crowd and interviewing fans….and since I wasn’t stopped and asked how I felt about the whole ‘Idol’ thing….I was racking my brain trying to figure out how to get on camera. So, when Jeremy Baker was out hyping up the crowd, I spontaneously shouted out “Jeremy will you marry me?” so that they’d turn the camera to my side of the crowd. To my emberrassment, the crowd went quiet right as I shouted the fake proposal. My face instantly turned beet red. And he turned around and said “what?” and then ran over to me with his camera guy and told me to shout it into the camera again, as if he were far away. So…I looked into the camera and shouted it again. Alas, I didn’t ever make the news…but perhaps I’ll be on some Jeremy Baker blooper reel someday!
I have a few more photos posted here.
….Weekend Update
Spring in the South is a beautiful thing my friends. It’s been sunny and warm the last few days and I spent a lovely weekend with Thom.
On Saturday we drove down to my fave part of Little Rock, the west side, and tried out a new-to-us restaurant- Genghis Grill – The Mongolian Stir Fry. It’s a build-your-own-bowl style restaurant. I thought it was quite good….and it totally satiated my craving for Asian cuisine. I just happened to have my handy-dandy little Fuji to document the meal 🙂
Today was quite productive. I was up early and headed out to pick up our PO mail and do some grocery shopping. Then, Thom and I headed over to the house to do some work. Thom put up another hummingbird feeder. Last week we noticed a couple of hummingbirds hanging around and I named them both Snitch {Harry Potter reference~The Golden Snitch} because I can’t tell the two apart. I stalked them today to try and get a good pic:
Thom also hung my lovely basket of Petunias on the front deck. The porch is beginning to look pretty homey 🙂
There’s not a lot on my plate for the week….but I do have Toad Suck Daze to look forward to at the end of the week. I missed last year’s festival cuz of our Spring trip to {Mich}. Too bad I didn’t get myself a toady for the Championship Toad Races. Maybe next year.
…Who Knew
…that shopping could be so tiresome? I was feeling sickly and run down on Tuesday so I stayed in my pajamas all day{I did get dressed around 6pm}
Thom and his daughter Nicole drove over on Sunday and were off sight seeing. We did quite a bit in the two days they were here. Sunday we drove out to Gillette Nature Center and checked out the trails. My legs are still hurting from climbing that HUGE set of dune stairs. And the view wasn’t as good as I’d remembered! Then we headed over to Pere Marquette to see the USS Silversides. Monday we went to downtown Muskegon to get tourist info from the Depot and then toured the Muskegon County Museum. More shopping at Meijer after that.
I’m off to see a movie with Melly and Matthew this afternoon. Tomorrow I will hang out with them in Ravenna. Have plans every day until it’s time for our return to Heber.
Hope y’all are well!
…Ladies Who Lunch & Shop, And Lunch Again.
I think I’ve gotten my shopping fix.
Strong and refreshed once again, we made our way back to Muskegon to check out Hobby Lobby and Target.
We made it home right in time to call Thomas and watch Idol.
It was an awesome day!
…There’s No Place Like Home
Or…mabye there is. It’s strange being back home in Muskegon….a place I barely considered home when I lived here since I grew up in Ravenna. It’s cold and rainy here, and there are spots of snow hanging on in places. The trees are bare and the sky is gray. People are still bundled up and racing from outside to inside in an attempt to beat the cold.
Back home in Heber, the trees are budding and flowers are blooming. The sun is hot and summer clothes are being worn. The pace is slower and the air is fresher and more relaxed. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever really consider Arkansas my home or if I’d just feel like a transplanted visitor.
And, if home is where your heart is….then I definitely have two homes because there are people in both places that I love so much {okay…well just one in Arkansas}.
The trip up was lovely and quick. I had mapped out the weather forecast a day before we left using weather.com…and it predicted rain and general dreariness for the entire trip. Either the forecast was wrong or I mapped it out incorrectly {which is more likely?} because it was lovely all the way up. Sunny with a few clouds and warm enough not to rush from the car to the restrooms at each stop.
Thom has headed over to the other side of the state to hang out with his kids and I am hanging out here with the fam. I was able to join the girls and guys for Tuesday Card Night at Vicki’s. Nice to see the girls and laugh for a long, long time.
I’ve checked off only a couple of To-Do items from my list of Muskegon-Things-I-Must-Do {see, shop, eat}. I visited Jeri Lynn at the Glamazon for a hair cut and chopped off my long locks. It’s really short and now I’m remembering why I never wear short hair- I HATE MY NECK. {sigh} Good thing my hair grows fast. And, at least it’s cold here….I can still wear turtlenecks and sweaters. Back home in Heber-not so much.
I also visited Meijer. I didn’t even buy anything. I just walked around taking in all the possibilities and enjoying something other than WalMart for a change.
Later today I will lunch at Panera with Lois and Mom. It’s becoming a tradition each time I arrive back home in Muskegon….and it’s always pleasant. I hope to do some shopping afterward. I need new socks from Sears 🙂
Hope you guys are well!!

…Time Stands Still
So, it’s Thursday. Just 6 more hours of work ahead of me until I am a free girl. There’s still so much to do here–laundry, packing, grocery shopping for road trip supplies, cleaning, and tying up assorted loose ends at the house. There just aren’t enough hours in the day…and looking at the clock every 2 minutes isn’t helping matters. The hands seem to have stopped moving and time is going by sooooo sllloooowwwly.
I think I have wrangled 2 whole weeks away from work. I have a lot planned for my time in Mich..including a haircut with my old stylist. I haven’t found anyone here that I’m crazy about and this mane is getting fairly wild.
{sigh} I guess it’s time to step away from the computer and head toward the laundry room…..Hope y’all are well…and I’LL BE SEEING YOU SOON!!!!!!!!!
…Friday Fill-in
Sometimes it’s just easier to fill in the blanks…
And…here we go!
1. Why do we have to grow older?
2. Moisturinzing and preventative measures are now habits.
3. I have eaten too many cheesy breadsticks.
4. I had never heard the phrase “bless your heart” so many times and it is comforting.
5. I will stay up way too late and hit the snooze too many times the way I always do.
6. How as I to know that getting older wasn’t all that I thought it would be.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to Hell’s Kitchen, tomorrow my plans include working and shopping and Sunday, I want to sleep in!
….My Celebrity Neighbors
Have I mentioned that our “new” old house is just down the road from Pride Rock? Yep. I’ll be hangin’ with Simba and King Mufasa soon. Good thing I don’t have animals or small children. But wait….is Simba waving at me? Maybe there’s nothing to worry about.
Here’s my “craft room”….aka the “guest room.” Scrap supplies have pretty much taken over in there. And there’s my pink and chocolate brown tote from the Maxx….and my fancy letter g. I love that font. Isn’t the brown paneling just lovely?
At first I balked at the white wire utility shelves above the bed. But I actually needed the space….and I’m thinking about putting up one more.
Today was gorgeous down here in Ark. Super sunny and warm. I worked in the yard a bit {raking leaves}, drove down Lake Ln. and met one of Thom’s friends who has a place right on Greer’s Ferry Lake. It was a lovely day off 🙂
