Pin it & Spin it: Pumpkin Buttercream Pumpkin Loaf
The Spin:
Vanilla bean paste added to the buttercream! So, so good.
The verdict:
I don’t think there’s any pumpkin loaf anywhere that could be wrong. I’ve tried dozens of recipes over the years with basically the same results. Pick one, any one and with the addition of buttercream, you can’t go wrong.
Pumpkin Buttercream
slightly adapted from NancyCreative
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons pumpkin {not pie filling}
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
3 cups powdered sugar
2-3 teaspoons milk {as needed}
1/4 cup toasted pecans
Beat butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add pumpkin, cinnamon, and vanilla bean paste. Mix on medium speed until combined. Lower mixer speed and add powdered sugar adding milk as needed. Scrape down sides of bowl. Increase speed and beat until fluffy, adding more milk if needed to reach desired spreadable consistency. Frost cooled pumpkin loaf. Sprinkle with toasted pecans. Serve with a glass of ice cold milk and enjoy!

Pin it & Spin it: Anthro Egg Crate
But, what does one do with a ceramic egg crate? Other than the the initial egg photo shoot?
Crickets.
Yea, that’s what I came up with, too.
Until I thought of this: recipe card holder. It looks pretty on the kitchen counter and is functional, too.
Materials:
Wooden craft eggs
Hacksaw or little saw tool {my words, not Thom’s}
Sand paper, fine grit, optional
That’s it! Just use the hacksaw blade to saw a slit into the top of the egg. Sand if needed {I didn’t bother, ours looked fine}.
I used a bit of double sided tape to secure the wooden egg to the ceramic so the egg wouldn’t bobble when I placed the recipe card in it.

Pin it & Spin it: Circus Sign
When my friend asked me to help with her son’s third birthday party and told me it was going to be a circus theme I was ecstatic. I love having a good reason to put pins to use. When it was time to put together some circus props what came to mind first was an amazing light-up circus sign I’d seen on a blog way before Pinterest came along. A quick search of the site and I was able to reconnect with the desired image.
The pin:
Light-up circus sign via The Winding Road
How cool is this? I had intended to go full out and drill the holes and use L.E.D. lights but time was not my friend on this project and I didn’t quite get that far and I had to improvise at the last minute.
My final results were almost as amazing….or at least squeal inducing. Plus it was so easy.
The spin:
White sticker paper and a small circle punch instead of drilling holes and finding/buying lights.
Supplies needed:
White sticker paper {I had some print & stick computer paper on hand}
Glossy red acrylic paint & foam paint brush
Small circle punch
Cardboard/paper letters {I have no idea what the “official” name of these things are-mine are from Hobby Lobby}
Method:
Using foam paint brush, give each letter a coat of paint. I painted the “inside” edges of each letter, let it dry 10 or 15 minutes and then gave the rest of the letter a coat of paint {one side at a time}. Let dry 30 minutes. Flip over and paint the other side. Let dry another 20-30 minutes. Repeat process for a second coat.
Let dry completely before applying circle-punched stickers.
This is a super simple project that really adds to fun party ambiance.

Pin it & Spin it: Mini Accordion Album
The Spin:
I’ve had a stack of Instax pictures from a friend’s circus-themed birthday party and I knew I wanted to use them so I adjusted the length and width through trial-and-error with a scrap piece of cardstock {and now I have that as a template for the next Instax mini album!}.
The possibilities for decorating the inside are endless: washi tape, shipping tags, ribbons, fun photo corners, and miscellaneous cut-outs were the main ingredients in my album-anything bright, colorful, and circus themed worked.
I left plenty of places and blank pages for my friend Janae to journal about the circus party…
My favorite part of the whole album- a F U N pennant bunting with big top background {and cute-as-a-cupcake Landon who turned three that day}!
I finished up with a simple label on the back of the album and inked all the edges. I loved this little project and can’t wait to work up some more albums for my stack of Instaxes.

Pin It & Spin It: Tara Anderson Inspiration
Do you know of Tara Anderson? She’s a scrap booker, paper crafter, and photographer extraordinaire. I’ve been reading her blog, The Pink Couch on and off for years. Her creations are lovely, yet intimidating, for rookie crafters like me. She has an uncanny ability to layer items on a page that is beautiful and magical.
When I found this pin I was intimated to say the least. I have no sense of layering when it comes to scrap booking. I’m happy with my results though…and I may be over my fear of layering.
The Pin:
This gorgeous set of layered stickers was featured in Tara’s Etsy Store. I wanted to recreate a similar tag for a project I’m working on. My layers would not be removable.
The Spin:
For my particular project I wanted to add an inspirational word/message. I also wanted the card to have a little texture so I used a piece of color washed canvas as my base. Most of the embellishments, including the butterfly punch, are Martha Stewart products.
HOPE is stamped in brown on color washed white cardstock.
Pin It & Spin It: Fabric Covered Mouse Pads
Today’s Pin it & Spin it looked easy enough but it was still daunting to me in the beginning. I don’t cut all that well. Or iron. And, I’m not all that patient. I had nothing to worry about. This pin took no time at all and my crooked cuts gave my finished product a quirkiness that only handmade crafts made-with-love can produce.
Pin It & Spin It: Monkey Squares

2 eggs

Stir in nuts and spread in pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Cool and frost with Browned Butter Frosting.
Browned Butter Frosting

Pin It & Spin It: Dulce de Leche
The How To:
Remove label from one can of sweetened condensed milk. Place in crock pot {place on a saucer to avoid a ring}. Cover with water. Cook slowly on low for 7-8 hours. Turn off crock pot. Remove can from water {I used tongs and a pot holder} and allow can to cool before removing the lid. Prepare to be amazed.
The Verdict: A-mazing. The sweetened condensed milk turned into a lovely, sweet caramel. Pretty to photograph and a tasty treat.
So…what to do you do with Dulce de Leche? Pair it with this to make a one rich, decadent dessert which I will share with you next time!!
