Can I be done now?

Blogging really shouldn’t feel like a self-imposed punishment, should it?  I know that I can stop this any time I’d like…but I just can’t quit.  I will see this through.

So, happening here today. Work. Raked some leaves-it seems that every leaf in the greater Cove area has landed in our driveway.

Is it sad that that’s all I have going on?  Probably.  I’m going to leave it at that since I’m not feeling great tonight and my eyes hurt so badly I can barely see the monitor.  I still can not find my glasses.  They’ve been missing, oh, about 7 months now. {sigh}

I’m Feelin’ Lucky

These NaBloPoMo posts have been difficult for me.

Originally, I had a plan for daily posts….or at least a general idea of daily topics.  But then, I didn’t write them down.  I’ve been waiting until late at night to post, in the hopes that inspiration would strike and creativity would pour forth from my mind down into my fingertips. Meaningful, thoughtful words would tap out with each key stroke and I’d keep you entertained, enlightened, an enthralled.  While the latter might be true, the former is certainly not.  Inspiration turns to desperation at the last hour of the each day.  I scramble for something to write, I pray that our shoddy-as-of-late internet connection will last just long enough for me to string together some coherent sentences, and hope that I am not so completely boring as to put y’all to sleep.

And then a voice tells me that I think and worry about this too much.  Voice?  A little voice in my mind?  A little devilish mini-me sitting on my shoulder prodding at my blogging insecurities telling me I’m not smart enough, creative enough, interesting enough?  No.  That voice would be Thom’s. Ha.

So, maybe I do take this too seriously; maybe I take myself too seriously at times…but I want you to like me….really like me.

It just occurred to me that I titled this post “I’m Feelin’ Lucky.”  I wonder. To those of you who write blogs:  do you title your post before or after you’ve written the actual post?  I’ve gotten in the habit of doing it before with the intention of writing about the title topic…but somehow the post always turns out differently then originally intended {meaning the two seconds it took for my fingers to find the home keys on the keyboard as I sat down to conjure up a post}.

I have been feeling lucky lately.  I’ve won a few blog giveaways and this morning, on the way to work, I won  a phone-in, caller #9 contest from a Little Rock radio station for Dazzle Days tickets {which I’ve wanted to but never have attended}.

With any luck, you’ve made it to the end of this diatribe, in tact, awake, and still liking me.  Congrats…and thanks, too!

On waiting and anticipation

Is it just me or was the price of pumpkins outrageous this year?  I wanted these gems back at the beginning of October but they were almost $8 a piece!  Instead, I waited until Halloween and paid just a dollar a piece.  And, I’m enjoying them just as much as if I’d gotten them before.
I have a slight problem with immediate gratification {which is both funny and ironic today of all days as our internet connection is intermittent and extremely slow}.  However, I am learning to curb the want for the sake of needs.  I’ve always thought that I’m a few steps behind most people  my age; behind all my classmates back home in Michigan.  I’m in a place I never thought I’d be at this point in my life, both literally and figuratively. I’m learning to be okay with it.  Good things come to those who wait, right?
I’m also learning that like that top pumpkin there, bumply and warty-looking is pretty, too.       Sure, the smooth, orange pumpkin is the norm.  It’s most recognizable and acceptable.  But, there is something unique about a bumpy dark colored pumpkin that adds interest and contrast to normal.  It’s what makes normal, well, normal.
Sometimes the anticipation is sweeter than the reward.  It’s like waiting and waiting for the pumpkin pie to finish baking and cooling, and then realizing at first bite that you forgot to add the sugar. Or, finishing the whole pie in one sitting, leaving nothing to look forward to later.
This month I am grateful for waiting.  I’m grateful for the sweet, tingly feeling of anticipation.  I’m grateful for right timing and the feeling that I’ll know when that time comes.
I am grateful for the sunrise in the morning and the endless possibility of a new day, a new start. I am grateful for pretty pumpkins, warty and bumpy, orange and smooth, whitish and ghoulish…I love them all.

I had half a dozen thoughts on what I’d post about today.  Unfortunately I was lying in bed at the time and fell asleep approximately 5.4 seconds after said thoughts.  Apparently anything interesting I have to write about escapes the moment I power on the computer.

Oh….Thanks so much for all your nice comments the other day about the post about my Mom’s birthday.  Y’all are the sweetest.

Update on the Guy guy.  He buys soft drinks at the gas station.  Coca Cola, to be exact. A two liter and several cans.  I wonder why he didn’t just buy 2 two liters?

Apparently my blog is no competition with Pinterest.  I’ve been informed that someone doesn’t read me anymore because Pinterest takes up all her time. Hmmmmmmmm.

Why is it that the moment I even consider having nice pictures taken, my face breaks out?

Happy 11-11-11

Slippin’ in a post with just an hour to spare today.  I’m completely pooped. It’s been a busy couple of days.  I’ve been to Little Rock twice in as many days, and while it’s fun to go, and be there, and shop at all the fun places I love in LR, the drive is ridiculous.

Thom and I went yesterday to have his glasses fixed and then we made the rounds of all my favorite places: The Container Store and Michaels.

Today, I met up with a friend after work and headed back to LR for Holiday House, a mega shopping event at the State House Convention Center for the Junior League of Little Rock.  It was fun to see all the fun stuff…I ended up not buying anything.  I absolutely refuse to pay ridiculously high prices for stuff  that I could make myself. It was nice to go out to dinner afterward:  had a glass of wine, a margarita pizza, and splurged on chocolate cake with ganache for dessert {paired with Janae’s double vanilla gelato = A-mazing!}.  I know I spend a lot of time whining that I don’t have any friends here and that I don’t get out enough…but the truth is that I don’t make much of an effort.  I’m SO glad I took this invitation to go. I had a great time.

So..where were you at 11:11 today?  I was sitting at my desk…completely forgot to look at the clock until it was too late.  Currently, it is 11:08pm  and I’m forcing myself to stay up for three more minutes in order to make a wish.  Guess I’d better get to thinking of a good wish 🙂
