What Saturday Night Looks Like

It  may seem entirely uncool to post on a Saturday night…but I’ve never claimed to be cool so here is what Saturday night looked like here at the Cove:

Fresh veggies chopped and prepped: red pepper, green onion, carrots, edamame, cilantro, peanuts.

Finally, a peanut sauce recipe that ROCKS.

Cloverfield.  I actually screamed out loud at one point.  Liked this a lot.

Afterward, I couldn’t sleep.  I wonder why?  No…not because I was scared.  Because slaw was calling me from the fridge.

Anniversary Update

So…not only was there no cake {and thus, no custard filling} but everyone totally forgot about my work anniversary.  Co-worker FAIL! For the record, I pretty much knew that they would forget…but I still couldn’t help giving them the benefit of the doubt.  I’m a glass-half-full thinker most of the time.

I did, however, receive my letter of congrats, 15-year pin, and gift card about twenty minutes before it was time to leave for the day.  Oh…and a promise of lunch out with all the managers next week. Uh. Thanks?

Thom didn’t forget, though. {really, how could he when all he heard for days was:  “I hope there’ll be cake!”}  Thanks, love!

Thoughts on Staying Afloat

I generally try to keep this space positive and upbeat and save the heavy stuff for personal journaling.  Yet, at times, I feel the need to explain my lack of posting.  I’m not the best at dealing with feeling overwhelmed and I tend to shut down and retreat until sunnier skies reappear.  I feel myself slipping into that mode again.  I’m feeling un-creative {is that a word?} bored, and just plain moody lately.  I try really hard not to be.  I don’t want to be difficult to live with.  I don’t want to be grouchy.

I’m so busy just trying to stay afloat here.  The drive to work {an hour each way}, work itself {impending audit has everyone on edge}, and bills, bills, bills {lord, will they EVER go away?} have me feeling as if I’m sinking.  Luckily, I have a partner who helps keep my head above…yet I really just keep thinking- is this the way it will always be?

Ugghh.  Downer post in the making.  Lets move on.  Some happy things I’ll try to focus on instead:

Tomorrow is my 15 year anniversary at work, or with the company, I should say.  I’ve been at my current location almost 5 years {since moving to Ark}.  I’m secretly hoping someone makes a big deal of it.  And, I’m hoping for cake- with a custard filling {laugh}.  Mostly, I’m looking forward to the gift certificate I know I’m getting {I open the mail at work, after all}.

Weekends have been lovely lately.  Two days off together are something of a rarity in retail even with an office job like mine. But, these last few -I’ve had off and it’s been lovely to have the break.

Last weekend, we slept in and stayed up late.  We spent a few hours sunbathing on the lower deck, reading and listening to the radio and generally finding it amazing that more people weren’t out enjoying the lake.

We drove into town to give the car a bath.  I think someone was trying to tell me something:

I stalked Hop with the camera for a bit…but he refuses to have his picture taken- unless he doesn’t know I’m taking his picture.  I was messing around with an old Ansco Shur Shot we have and he was curious as to what I was up to when I place it in front of him.  This shot is through the Shur shot lens.

I’m a couple days behind in my photo-a-day challenge but I’m hoping to catch up tomorrow.

So…that’s it, friends.  Just trying to stay afloat here.

Photo A Day

During the winter months I tend to forget about taking pictures.  Gray days and cold temps encourage snuggling in- easy to do in a house with no lighting.  Seriously, our little, north-facing home is ideal for cozying up and hiding from the outside world.

Now that it’s Spring, we’re more than ready to open the windows and let the freshness of nature breeze through the house.  It’s also a good time to pick up the camera and explore the outside.  And, that’s what I love most about this photo-a-day challenge.  With a different word prompt each and every day, I am looking around more. Noticing more. Getting out more.

Once again my little camera has become my friend.  We’re battle-worn comrades and my Fuji shows it’s battle scars well- the battery door won’t shut and so it’s held together with a tight rubber band.  The lense is dusty and in need of cleaning. It has recorded so many images over the last four years and is, indeed, in need of retirement.  Hopefully later this Spring {I was supposed to get a new camera over the winter months but it just didn’t happen :/}.

But, here we are.  Embarking on a photo-a-day together.  Capturing moments in time.  Here are the moments from this week that I wanted to remember forever:

Day 1- Reflection:  laundry day
Day 2- Colour:  movie night with a friend and chatting afterword in the darkened parking lot
Day 3- Mail:  My “mail sorter” not really working for me
Day 4- Someone who makes me happy:  Having lunch and pie with a friend from work
Day 5- Tiny:  Tiny chocolate chips atop frozen yogurt on my lunch hour
Day 6- Lunch- Salad and a baked potato on Friday afternoon
Day 7- Shadow:  cheating just a tad as Thom really took this picture of me & my shadow

Randoms

* Sometimes I feel guilty about needing alone time.  
* This week has been all about the pie. Lemon Meringue & Coconut Cream
* It’s no wonder that none of my clothes fit & that I feel uncomfortable in my own skin.
* On the way home from work I noticed a few strands of my pony tail had mysteriously turned grey overnight.
* Not as in “just a few strands here and there”…but more like a streak of grey.
* Perhaps I should not pull my hair back anymore.

ETA:  apparenlty blogger had issues on the night that I wrote this and didn’t post.  hmmmmm
