Aww…shucks.  Thanks, Sweety.  I’ve been perfecting my Oscar acceptance speech since I was about fourteen and yet I can hardly think of what to say now that my time in the spotlight has arrived.  So…I’ll get right to it: 


SEVEN QUESTIONS

   1.  What is your favorite song? If I’m being totally honest:  Here I Go Again, by Whitesnake
   2.  What is your favorite dessert? Currently: Frozen Peanut Butter Pie {reserve the right to amend}
   3.  What do you do when you are upset? Curse & Cry…in that order.
   4.  Which is your favorite pet? Felix the fish {he was low maintenance, but he’s dead now, too}
   5.  What is your guilty pleasure? Sweets.  But, do I really feel guilty?
   6.  What is perfection? Being happy with one’s self.  Or, perfectly imperfect.
   7.  What is your attitude mostly? Cup half full, loves.

Ten Random Factoids
 
   1. For the last month I’ve had only the nails on my right foot painted. I didn’t like the color and was too lazy to take it off.

   2.  I have no desire to travel {other than to Paris or Italy}

   3.  Coming up with “random” facts is difficult having blogged for six years.  I feel like I’ve shared every random part of me.

  4.  I haven’t shared my arms on the blog.  They’re the body part I most despise {my own, not yours!}

  5.  A lot of times I feel pressured to be creative.  Most of the time I don’t feel it at all.

  6.  My eyes turn different shades of blue and gray.

  7.  I’m never sure whether it’s “gray” or “grey” and I’m too lazy to look it up.

   8. I do, however, know the difference between weather and whether.

   9. My favorite number is 14.

 10. It took exactly 11.5 minutes to come up with ten facts.

On Personal Style…

It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.  My personal style.  Or, rather, lack thereof.  I’ve never been “into” clothes.  Once we {meaning my brothers and myself} reached high school, we were responsible for buying our own school clothes if we wanted something more than the basics.  And, since I was too involved in extracurricular activities to actually get a job I wore just the basics.  Not to mention the fact I had a difficult time finding clothes anyway. I still do as a matter of fact.

So, I find myself wearing the same old things.  The same old styles.  The same old cotton shirts and boring pants.  It’s all I’ve known for so many years.

Would it be totally weird to suddenly shift styles?  I’d love to wear more skirts and dresses {I haven’t owned a dress in years!}.  I love the vintage look.  So many possibilities…it’s almost mind boggling.

What do you think?  Has your style stalled or evolved?

When in doubt…

…post pictures of food.  Whereas last week I had plenty to say, this week:  I’ve got nothin’.  So when there’s nothing to say, I say- post pictures of food.  And so, I shall.

There’s just something very appealing about charred husks. I had high hopes for grilled corn on the cob.  When that didn’t quite work out {coals not hot enough} I improvised.  Cut into rounds and grilled in the veggie-kabob marinade.

Fresh veggies speared and seared.  Okay, grilled-but that didn’t sounds as fun.  Marinated veggies in Italian dressing doctored up with fresh garlic, cayenne, and Tony Chachere’s.

Served up in fresh pita.

Recipe Review: Greek Veggie Wraps

The recipe: Greek Veggie Wraps via Annie’s Eats.

Variation:  I forgot the couscous-good without…but would have been SO good had I added it.
               
                In addition to the recipe as written, I:
                added diced cucumber.
                used Greek style pepper rings.
                added chopped green onion.
                added chopped green pepper.

The verdict:  So delish!  Seriously good Greek Salad in a wrap.  And, this comes from a girl who doesn’t really care for Greek Salad?  I know.  I’m weird.  The flavors just work in the spinach wrap, though. Feta cheese?  Meh.  But with the wrap: fabulous.  Balsamic vinaigrette? Normally, I’d pass.  But with the wrap:  tasty.

I can’t say enough about the flavors.  This will most definitely be put into rotation here…and will be excellent for lunches at work.

A Summer with Lani

My niece, Dalani, turned one shortly after I moved to Arkansas so I’ve missed all of her toddler years and i feel as if I barely know her.  Don’t get me wrong…we have a good time together when I’m home in {Michigan}.  She is smart and funny-a lot like me ~ha!  Having spent almost every spare moment of my time with my nephew {who is 11 now} before the huge trek to Ark, I feel like I relate more to little boys.  Or, maybe it’s because they’re much more easily entertained.  Cars go vrrrooooom.  Dolls have conversations. And, I’m bad at conversations.

So I’ve come up with a little summer project for Lani and myself.  To connect.  To introduce her to my world down here.  And, hopefully, to start conversations with a five-year-old and  dolls more easily.

The idea is to send this doll back and forth documenting our respective summers.  I’ve spent the week toting her around {the doll and Lani, notice the pendant?} and taking her picture.  The first round, on my part, will be pretty mundane.  I’ll tell her about what my days look like and about the town I live in and the one I work in as well.  

I’ll print off the pictures and send them along with the dolly to Lani in Michigan.  I’ve fashioned a pendant with a picture of me just a year or two older than Lani is now {5} that will go with her.

I’m hoping she’ll find this little summer project as fun as I do.  I’ll share our little adventure as it unfolds!

Week 1:

  • Dolly enjoys crafting!
  • Grocery Shopping.
  • Dolly checks out the container garden.
  • Laundry~ yuck.
  • I heart Lani.
  • Dolly visits the Maxx.
