First, let me just acknowledge the fact that I am, indeed, from the North. I hail from a mind-numbing, blustery, cold region and I should be accustomed to winter weather. I know this. But, that doesn’t mean I have to like it, right? Right.
Secondly, this Arkansas winter has been extremely mild and I shouldn’t complain too much about it, so I won’t. Instead I’ll proclaim how EXCITED I am for spring. And, I was doubly excited for the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show that happened last weekend. Thom and I trekked to Little Rock in search of mushrooms and succulents. We were not disappointed.
Arkansas Flower and Garden Show
We headed down to Little Rock last Saturday morning in good spirits; the sun was shining brightly and I felt like Spring was in the air. I’m excited to get outside and plant some succies! Thom has kept them alive (mostly-lol) under a grow light in the house these last few months. I’m too nervous to mess with them much-my green thumb is much greener in the hot weather when I don’t have to mess with them much. Except, Thom pretty much takes care of them anyway so that explanation really doesn’t work. Lets just say, I love them more outside than inside. Does that make me a fickle succie mom? I thought so.
Back to the show: We started with a succulent seminar presented by Culberson Greenhouses.
It was a fun session and we learned about a few varieties of succulents we’d like to add to our collection. They even showed us how to make those adorable turtle succulent pots that everyone keeps tagging me in on Facebook. Ha!
We sat down for a mushroom seminar and it was so interesting. There was mushroom & hibiscus tea!
I thought the “show” was very small and there weren’t a lot of plants and/or flowers. Maybe my expectations were too high. I was most excited for The Good Earth Garden Center‘s succulent bar. But, honestly, there weren’t a lot of varieties available that I don’t already own, so I opted not to build my own succulent. Instead, I picked up two succies I don’t have in our collection. But! The succulent bar was super cute and I made a video to share. I’m SO eager to get out and get my hands dirty. What about you?

I went to the show on Friday, and although I wanted to be awed, I was a little disappointed. It seemed smaller with fewer landscape exhibitors maybe? That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy looking at all the exhibitors. I bought a pretty angel hair fern. I want to support the local gardeners, but quite frankly, I think $10 admission was a bit steep to buy from vendors. Just saying.

I thought there would be more, too. I agree about the entrance fee.

I have a dream of doing a “potting bar” someday. Like a happy hour with succulents.

It’s SO FUN. I must be there for that!
