Fall is the best time for baking, isn’t it? Crisp air, dressing in layers, hot coffee-all great mood setters for turning on the oven and baking something sweet to enjoy with that coffee. Over the weekend I was elbow deep into some sweet dough when I made some homemade apple fritters for Thom. It was another pin from my The Way to His Heart Pinterest Board.
How did it turn out, you ask?
For a first at-home try, I’d say my homemade apple fritters were quite good. And, tasty too.
The pin:
These Apple Cider Fritters from Sugar Hero.
The spin:
Thom likes his apple fritters flat and crispy so I rolled the dough out super flat and make sure to flatten them again after the rise time. I wasn’t sure if I should let them “proof” or rise like the directions said to since he likes them more dense. It’s been a long time since I’ve worked in a professional bakery-have I mentioned here I was a “baker’s helper” back in my early twenties? I was the girl who frosted the donuts and who occasionally made/fried them, too. Best job ever. Anywho, I was guessing with the rise time and ended up following the directions.
The verdict:
From Thom- “Possibly the best homemade apple fritters I’ve ever eaten.” I should probably have been flattered but then I got to thinkin’-it’s the only homemade apple fritters he’s ever eaten! hahaha
I’ll take it, though!
Really, he did like them quite a bit and he’s requested they be made again.
This was a multi-part recipe and turned into an all day event. While it was a good recipe and fairly easy to follow, definitely give yourself plenty of day to get them made if you decide to attempt these homemade apple fritters.
