What? You don’t have boxes and suitcases full of paper scraps? It’s okay. You can make this fun spring wreath with one scrap book paper pack. Hint: find 12 x 12 coordinating paper packs at Tuesday Morning. It’s one of my favorite places to pick up new patterned paper packs. Let’s make this fun spring wreath!
All the Pretty Papers
Confession: I have so much scrap paper that I just can’t bare to part with that I’ve had to shuffle it around the craft room several times because I haven’t come up with a great system for storing it. All my pretty scrap papers are currently residing in this made-over suitcase. Do you have a storing system that you just love? I’d love to hear about it.
For this wreath, I used strips of 12 x 12 papers cut into 1/2-inch-wide pieces. Some were 1/2 inch, some were 1/4, and others may have been 1 inch or wider. The trick is to have varying widths of papers to make the wreath look full and bouncy.
For length, the paper strips don’t necessarily have to be 12 inches long. You can have shorter pieces, too. In fact, a lot of the times I cut the papers to fit the wreath as I was pinning them. Eyeball the wreath as you pin and adjust as needed.
If you’re quick with a scissor cutting the paper will be a cinch. I’m not great wielding sharp tools so I prefer using my Fiskars paper cutter instead. Note that I have an extremely old model. I’ve probably had this for, oh, 16 or 17 years. That’s how great this brand is.
How to Make a DIY Paper Bunny Wreath
This paper wreath is a little time consuming. I suggest breaking down the steps into manageable pieces according to how much time you have.
Time needed to prep supplies:
- Cut 50-75 strips of paper: 30 minutes
- Rolling/shaping paper strips: 1 hour
- Pinning strips to the wreath: 1 hour
Supplies:
- 50-75 strips of paper (depends on how big your wreath form is)
- Straight pins (I used these tiny sequin pins
- Adhesive, optional for heavier papers
- Wreath form (10 inch)
- Paper bunny plate (Target)
- Hot glue gun & glue
Instructions:
- Cut papers into 1/4″, 1/2″, and 1 inch strips, varying the width as you go
- Roll strips of paper around a paper to form curly paper strips
- Use the got glue gun to attach the bunny plate to the bottom of the wreath
- Attach curly paper scraps to the wreath form using sequin pins
- Optional: finish the wreath with a tiny paper bow added to the bunny neck
- Loop a ribbon over the top and double knot to hang
Tips for Creating a Paper Bunny Wreath
- For heavier card stock papers, add a touch of adhesive glue to the paper strip where it will touch the wreath form.
- Eyeball the wreath as you are pinning. Hold it at arm’s length to check for fullness and gaps.
- Leave the back of the wreath empty so that it will lay flat wherever you hang it.
