I’m not sure about you, but I dislike snow. Bring a bit of the outside in with this fun Embroidery Hoop Snowman. Wanna build a snowman? Lets do it…
Embroidery Hoop Snowman
This adorable DIY snowman tutorial may look complicated but it’s really not. Making the embroidery hoop snowman takes under an hour and is easy enough for kids 8 & up to do with supervision.
Gather these supplies:
- Cardboard (I used an old shipping box)
- 2 embroidery hoops, (1 medium, 1 large)
- Duct tape or masking tape
- Poly-fil (Polyester fiberfill)
- Fake Snow Blanket
- 3 rubber bands
- Buttons
- Ribbon
- Black pom poms (small, for mouth)
- Snowman hat (I used a 5-inch for the small snowman and a 9-inch for the large snowman)
- Orange felt for carrot nose
- Black Felt (optional)
- Fringe scissors (optional)
- Scissors
- Utility knife
- Hot glue gun & hot glue
Instructions:
- Take outer ring off of both embroidery hoops, set aside.
- Trace inner hoops onto cardboard and cut out rounds for both size hoops.
- Attach cardboard rounds to the bottom of the inner hoops with duct tape or masking tape. This will make a base.
- Fill the base with a mound of poly fil.
- Place the snow blanket over the inner ring and mound of filling.
- Replace the outer ring of the embroidery hoop so that it fits over the filling and snow blanket. Tighten the hoop screw.
- Repeat process for the second hoop.
- Lay the “head” or smaller hoop on top of the larger hoop so that the screws line up.
- Wrap the 3 rubber bands around both hoop screws to band them together.
- Lift up the top hoop so that your snowman is facing you.
- Tie a length of ribbon around the screws (or the neck). Fringe the ends, optional.
- Cut the snowman hat in half and attach to the smaller hoop (the head) with hot glue.
- Decorate hat, optional.
- Attach button eyes, pom pom mouth, and felt carrot nose; with hot glue.
- Attach two or three buttons down the length of the larger hoop (the belly).
- Optional: cut black felt into rounds to cover the back of the cardboard & hoops. Hot glue to attach.
- Hot glue a picture hanger to the back to hang your snowman.
The fun thing about this embroidery hoop snowman is that you can make them in different sizes and making them goes fairly quickly after you build the base.
Think outside the circle and make your embroidery hoop snowman a snowgirl! Add eyelashes. Switch up the colors of the snowperson’s scarf, use a real scarf, or even decorate the hat differently. The possibilities are truly endless! Use your creativity to bring your DIY snowman to life.
