Sometimes it’s fun to sit at the craft table and create something from whatever’s in reach. Mom was visiting the craft room (and me) last year when she introduced me to these cute Happy Heart Sticks. I think my niece, Lani, showed her how to make them.
Happy Heart Sticks are incredibly easy to make and can be used for decorations or even book marks. They use basic supplies I had on hand and within reach. If you don’t have this stuff lying around, they can be picked up at any craft or big-box store. If you’re like me and like to shop from home, I’ll provide some handy links to make shopping for craft supplies SUPER quick and easy.

I have these hanging on my pegboard in this matching bucket. They make me smile everytime I go into the craft room. Let’s make some happy hearts…
Happy Heart Sticks
Supplies:
- Stiff craft felt or felt hearts
- Buttons, assorted sizes & regular and heart shaped
- Wooden Popsicle Sticks
- Baker’s twine
- Hot glue gun & gluesticks
- Rubber stamps & ink, optional
- Valentine washi tape, optional
How-to:
- Cut felt into hearts (or use pre-made hearts.
- Use hot glue to attach the popsicle sticks to one side of heart.
- Flip over the stick. Attach layers of buttons starting with a large circle button. Top with next smaller size. Top with a heart shape button. Use as many buttons as you’d like. BE CREATIVE!
- If you’d like, stamp a sentiment as we did here, my mom’s name. Alternatively, decorate the stick with Valentine washi tape.
- Wrap a length of bakers twine near the top.
I filled my tiny pink bucket with pom poms and placed the happy heart sticks right inside and hung it on my pegboard.
Happy Heart Sticks would also make great teacher gifts or Valentines for the class. Get the kids involved in making them and have a good time!
