Can you believe I made these DIY Fall Acorn Decor items from wooden ornmaments that cost $1 each? One dollar! I’m always on the lookout for fun fall craft supplies when I head into Target. The Dollar Spot usually does not disappoint. The day I spotted these I thought, “self, you only need a couple of these wooden ornaments. There’s no need to buy them all.”
What was I thinking? I promptly called my friend Jeanetta and asked her to swing by and buy all the wooden ornaments that were left so they wouldn’t be gone by the time I got back to town. HA! They really should call it the $100 Dollar Spot.

All the supplies were things I had on hand, as any self-respecting crafter would: glitter, twine, and buttons. No worries if YOU don’t have them. You can pick up a lot of these at the Dollar Spot, too. Lets get to making!
DIY Fall Acorn Decor
Supplies:
- Wooden ornaments
- Glitter
- Assorted buttons
- Twine
- Mod Podge
- Foam brush
- Hot glue gun and Hot Glue
- Elmers Clear School Glue
Acorn with Buttons:
- Apply hot glue to buttons and lay down a first layer of assorted buttons.
- Build upon the first layer with more buttons.
- Fill in holes with odd shaped buttons or cut buttons in half to fill.
- Add interest by using a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors.
For the Glittered Acorn:
- Using the foam brush, apply a layer of Mod Podge across the cap area.
- While glue is still very wet, sprinkle glitter of the entire surface of glue.
- Tap off excess glitter onto a piece of paper (so you can fold and empty back into glitter container).
- Let dry.
- Optional: apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over glitter to seal
For the Twine Acorn:
- Starting in the middle of the cap area, apply a thin line of hot glue. Lay down twine in the glue.
- Apply more hot glue and continue winding twine in an oval pattern to fill the cap. This will be a messy layer.
- When the cap is filled with twine, brush a layer of Elmers Clear School Glue over the entire surface and repeat process with another layer of twine. Press down to flatten the oval.
- Let dry overnight. **I covered the twine with a piece of waxed paper and set it under a heavy book overnight**
