I love road trips. And, I love eating. Combine the two and I’m like, whoa! It’s so much fun. Ha! What’s not fun, though, is the mess it can sometimes be when you’re eating on the go. It’s so easy to grab some handy, disposable on-the-go containers and make our own “fast food.” Although I love to stop and eat at fast food joints as we travel, it really is more economical and healthier to pack our own snacks. My favorite road trip snacks are easy to pack, healthier choices, and also a lot of fun.

Yes, I find food fun. Here are some of my faves:
Favorite Road Trip Snacks
My favorite road trip snacks are those that can be easily accessed, held in one hand, and are dip-able. Aren’t dip-able foods just the best?
A few of my faves:
- Grapes, red & seedless
- Cashews (my all-time fave nut) These are Jalepeno Cashews.
- String cheese
- Ritz Pita Chips
- Tuna Salad (for dipping)
I packed up all my faves in these Rubbermaid TakeAlongs containers. They are slim and easy to stack in the cooler.
The pin: The “dip-able” portion of this road trip snack container comes from Tuna Salad recipe pin.
I love tuna fish, and we eat it occasionally. When I first came across this pin and looked at the ingredients, I was bewildered. Apples in tuna? And, then, I was intrigued and couldn’t stop thinking about the recipe. The ingredeints were simple: tuna, mayo, a Granny Smith apple, onion, almonds, and avocado.
The spin: I had everything on had except for the Granny Smith apple. And for the nuts, I figured walnuts and pecans were a good substitute for almonds, so I went with that.
The verdict: We LOVED this tuna salad. We had it on white sandwich bread and we’ve made it multiple times. We initially added the avocado but found that it didn’t add any real flavor to the salad and made it a bit too mushy for our liking. We’ve stopped adding it. The apple gives just a slight hint of sweetness and a lot of crunch along with the walnuts.
We like it so much that I’m including it along with our other favorite road trip snacks the next time we travel, which should be soon! What are your favorite on-the-go snacks?
Don’t forget to pin this for later!
