Sending holiday cheer to my loved ones far away is a great way to stay in touch and connect through our love of crafting.

When I learned my brother would be having a little girl eleven years ago, I was super excited. I imagined her growing up and crafting with me and my mom. At the time, I didn’t know my adventures would bring me to Arkansas making it impossible to craft with them. So, we devised a different way to craft together.
Sending Holiday Cheer
Inspired by a previous pen pal project with my niece Lani, I put together an Ugly Sweater Craft Kit to send to my niece. It contains all the craft supplies to make my No Sew Ugly Ornament, instructions, and maybe a little holiday treat or two. Putting it all together is easy with Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bags. These fun, limited edition bags feature a sweet holiday design that is great for gift giving.
Check out my No Sew Ugly Ornament post for instructions and supplies needed for the actual craft kit.
Sending holiday cheer with pretty packaging makes an extra-special surprise for the recipient so the challenge here was how to present the craft supplies in a pretty, functional, and economical way. I want to send these in holiday padded envelopes.
To do this:
Gather:
- Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bags
- Red craft foam
- Holiday Washi tape
- Small cellophane bag
- Gift tag
- Ribbon
To make:
- Cut red craft foam to fit inside the Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bag. I just eyeballed and cut easily with a scissor.
- Use washi tape to tape down the ugly sweater patterns to the foam.
- Fill the small cellophane bag with all the holiday buttons, doodads, and whatnots. Fold over the top and secure with washi. Affix the bag to the foam with more holiday washi.
- Line up the glitter glue tubes and attach to the foam with 2 strips of washi tape.
- Attach the metallic cording to foam.
Putting It All Together
Slip the foam into the Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bag.
Don’t forget to add a completed No Sew Ugly Ornament for reference, especially for young crafters. I like to hand write the instructions to add a personal touch.
Add the felt squares and handwritten instructions under the red foam so that the top of the Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bag shows the craft supplies and stays pretty.
I cut a gift tag out of patterned holiday paper and addressed to my recipient. Attach the gift card and some ribbon to the top of the Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bag. Seal it up.
I think the No Sew Ugly Sweater Craft Kit looks adorable in the holiday themed Ziploc© brand Easy Open Tab bags and I think my niece and mom will love it, too.
