This is the story of my Daybreak KATV morning show appearance.
When television comes a-calling, one must answer with a yes, amIright? Right! A few weeks ago, I was asked to demonstrate my pumpkin hoop tutorial on Daybreak, KATV’s weekend morning show. Without hesitation and without thinking about it, I said yes. No hemming and hawing about how I look, act, speak. I just said yes.
It’s a running theme with me this year, wouldn’t you say?
In true dramatic television fashion, my segment was a thrill-a-moment, with last minute schedule changes, an early morning call, and the excitement of being in a television studio for the first time.
Daybreak KATV Morning Show
This tiny Little Rock news channel studio sits on a busy corner next to the River Market. Although I’ve been there plenty of times, I’ve never noticed the studio. Like it’s bigger-market news channel studio setups, Daybreak airs in front of windows that look out to the streets of downtown Little Rock. Passers-by look in as the broadcasters deliver breaking morning news; they make funny faces and wave to the cameras as they walk on by.
Thom and I walked in just as the broadcast was about to begin. We’d gotten a late start from the Cove. Luckily, Saturday morning traffic cooperated and we made it just in the knick of time. I was on my own for set up. Other than the two anchors and the weatherman, there were only two other guys in the studio; the cameramen. One of them set up my table and brought out a tablecloth. I set up my pumpkins and mock-ups and Thom and I watched the news and weather segments until it was our turn.
Janelle Lilley, the Daybreak morning anchor and the one who actually found my pumpkin hoop tutorial and emailed me about the appearance, was super nice. We talked for just a minute before my segment and then it was showtime!
I may have looked and sounded confident, but I was super nervous. I hadn’t really practiced. I’m more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants preparer; I remember I had told Thom I was going to be talking myself through the tutorial to prep but I ended up getting distracted and never really did practice. Ha!
Behind the Scenes
Thom was the official Gina’s Fanclub videographer (that day and every day, in fact). Here’s a look at the behind-the-scenes happenings:

It was a super exciting day and I can’t wait to go back! That’s right! There’s a good chance I’ll be back in November with a Thanksgiving project. Stay tuned!!
