Sunday morning quiet. I love quiet. I crave calm. Starting Sunday mornings slowly brings a peacefulness to my soul. Sundays are the last day of the weekend; the day before the dreaded mania of Monday and I find it’s the best day to reflect on the week-what changes can I make in the week ahead?
I have a routine.
Sunday Morning Quiet
Generally I wake up at the same time every day I don’t work: 8:30. Sometimes, like today, 8.
I roll out of bed, visit the bathroom, take my morning meds. I can’t eat or drink for an hour after so in order to not give in to my growling stomach and my brain’s need for caffeine I slip back into bed and peruse Pinterest.
At some point in the next hour, Thom usually wakes and we talk, hold hands, discuss plans for the day. He falls back asleep; he knows I like a quiet morning to myself. I get up at that point and head downstairs (meaning down the two stairs that lead to the kitchen-hahaha).
I pour some coffee (Thom has made the night before), make some pumpkin spice oatmeal. When it’s warm I like to have breakfast outside on the deck overlooking Greer’s Ferry. Autumn mornings are usually quiet; not as many birds chirping or boat motors whirring across the lake.
After breakfast and fresh air, I sit down at the computer to catch up on blog reading. I still love to visit each blog separately without any sort of blog reader (I sometimes use Bloglovin’ during the week). It feels like I’m visiting old friends.
This year I’ve been in the habit of downloading my iPhone pictures from the cloud to the Mac. I’m so paranoid they’ll get lost “up there.” Crazy? Just me? I take quiet time to do this as well-although, I’ve been slacking on this the last few months. I like to purge, tag, place pictures into folders arranged by event, month, year. Sunday morning quiet time is perfect for this-concentration and repetition are my friends.
By this time I hear Thom stirring in the bedroom. I know that he’s wanting to start his day, too, but he’s kind enough to give me my time. I wrap up and move on.
Slow starts. Quiet time. Sunday stillness.
How do you like to end the week? I’d love to know more in the comments below or you can join the conversation over on the Desperately Seeking Gina Facebook page.
