It seems I’ve taken a bit of a summer hiatus from the ole blog. Not much going on this year apart from work and a fun trip to Las Vegas with my parents a couple of weeks ago. I have lots to share; first up: Las Vegas: Sweets & Eats.
It’s been twenty years since I’d been to the Las Vegas Strip and there were plenty of new restaurants and fun places to get some sweet treats.
Sprinkles Cupcake ATM
A quick glance at local attractions brought to my attention the Sprinkles ATM; something I’ve only read about but a total dream come true. 24-hour access to cupcakes? Yes, please. The Sprinkles Cupcake ATM is located in the LINQ Promenade (more about this in another post).
I could have just walked into the storefront to purchase my goodies but what fun would that have been? The machine truly is automated. Touch the screen to begin, choose your cuppie, swipe your debit/credit card, and the little pink door rises to reveal your selection.
The Salty Caramel was d e l i C i o u s. Pro tip: Enjoy your cuppie outside on the adjacent patio seating section or indoors, where there is limited bar-like seating. Also, plan accordingly; the cupcakes are packed in a secure box but it doesn’t travel well so pick them up when you’re close to being to your destination or have a better method of transporting than sticking the box in your bag.
Flour & Barley
Another LINQ Promenade destination: Flour & Barley Brick Oven Pizza. My parent’s and I are big pizza fans but I generally have a more “sophisticated” palate and sense of adventure when it comes to food. I’m also not opposed to spending a lot of money to try something new. I was surprised that mom and dad agreed to try this place as it was pricey (but so is everything in Vegas and maybe they were humoring me).
We were all a bit disappointed, however. The pizza dough was very, very dry and not flavorful at all. The toppings were fine. I had the Margherita and a craft beer. Our server might have been new as our wait was considerable even though the restaurant wasn’t busy and then there was a problem with the bill and her boss had to figure it out for her. Overall, I probably would try Flour & Barley again if money were no object but I would most likely choose something other than pizza.
Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville
We joined dad’s union rep and his delegates at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. It was early evening, seven-ish, and our wait for tables wasn’t too long. The margaritas were tasty and I had the Landshark Lager Fish & Chips. Best. Fish. Ever. It was served with a delicious jalapeño tartar sauce.
Ghirardelli
Ghirardelli, also located in the LINQ Promenade (I seriously never wanted to leave this area) was a sweet stop on a hot day. I enjoyed the Sea Salt Caramel Sundae. It was a tad pricey: $11.95 but I did use a 10%off coupon from my parent’s purchase.
Señor Frog
Señor Frog’s was our first dinner splurge. It’s located in Treasure Island and we were able to take a tram over from our hotel (The Mirage). Veggie fajitas and the frozen Frog Punch were my choices. It was so, so good. Will definitely return.
Sirrico’s
Did I mention our love for pizza? I should probably speak for myself. I could, truly, eat pizza for every meal, every day. Sirrico’s was part of the Village Street Eateries and was super delicious and since I’ve never been to New York for real, it was my first New York Pizza. Definitely would make a return trip to enjoy this pie.
With so many choices and price ranges, there’s something for everyone in Las Vegas. The joints we chose tended to be family friendly, pricey, with fun hoppin’ atmospheres. These Las Vegas: Sweets & Eats are definitely places I will return to again and again.
[…] When it comes to buying keepsakes and mementos on vacation, I’ve never been the type to buy things like t-shirts (never my size and I’m just not a graphic tee kind of girl) or snow globes. Give me a keychain (useful) or a magnet (usually take these to my locker at work). I came across the idea for my alternative Las Vegas souvenirs early on into our trip. […]
