(I’m really crafting almost every day. Posting-not so much. Will attempt to play catch up over the weekend)
I’ve been wanting to make ornaments out of canning jar rings for the longest time. I was inspired by these lovelies over at Camp Lovely from last year.
There are SO many ways to make them; theme possibilities are endless. I used supplies I had on hand: bits and pieces of Christmas ephemera collected through the year and scrapbook paper in 6×6 sheets-I’m totally addicted to this size paper.
My current favorite place to buy supplies is Tuesday Morning. If you’re not familiar-TM is an off price retailer much like TJ Maxx. I LOVE the scrapbooking section there. They keep a healthy supply of the 6×6 pads in stock most times. I used Crate Paper for this set of ornaments.
I picked up the fancy-schmancy canning jar rings at TM, as well. They’re called Show Toppers by Cosmo Cricket. You could very easily spray paint your own rings (there may be plans in the works for that around here-Thom is a master at spray painting).
25 Days of Ornaments
Supplies:
Canning jar rings
Scrapbook paper
Christmas ephemera
Glue (I used this)
An awl (or an ice pick)
Ribbon or String for hanging
To begin, I asked Thom to poke a hole in the top to tie on the ribbon. It was simple and easy to do.
Next, to make the rings with the paper on the back of the rings, I traced the lid on to the top/design side of the paper. I applied a thin layer of glue around the pencil marking and applied the ring to the glue. Topped the rings with heavy books and allowed to dry. I used a sharp scissor to cut away the excess paper and sanded the ages a bit to finish.
For the rings with the paper inside the ring-just traced and cut out circles of paper. Glued paper to the inside back of ring.
The fun part: adding the elements to the inside. Snow was made out of cotton balls. Elements hot glued. Easy peasy and took no time at all.
