I love how the internet can bring people together. A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to meet a blog reader who found me through my social media work for The Old Glove Factory. Melissa was a Heber/Romance woman whose family was splitting their time between Arkansas and Texas. We started our conversations on Facebook and when she came home to Ark, she invited me to her home for an evening of woodworking.
It’s always nerve wracking for me- meeting people in person. I’m much more talkative (and wittier) online (well, in my opinion, I’m witty-hahahaha). I needn’t have worried. Melissa and her family were so down to earth and friendly. They made me feel right at home.
After a tour of their home and renovating projects we jumped right into to a lesson on power tools. Melissa showed me how to use a router and a power sander (correct terms, right?). Then we headed inside for a lesson on designing with the Silhouette and she showed me some tips and tricks (use contact paper and Glad Press ‘n Seal as transfer paper).
Melissa was gracious and let me choose a design and color scheme to take home with me. Yellow and turquoise would look awesome in my craft room. The design was a tattoo that her friend has-Melissa was able to take a picture and transfer it to the Silhouette (that amazingness convinced me to save my pennies for a new cutter!).
Melissa is super quick at the whole process. Transferred and ready to paint in no time.
Removing the stencil and all the small parts made to look super easy. Because it is with Melissa’s tips and tricks.
A quick sealant and the sign is done!
I love how it looks in the craft room! I came home super excited about woodworking. Thom informed me he has a brand new router still in the box in the garage. I’m thinking I need to christen it soon.
Thanks for teaching me how to work with power tools, Melissa. I can’t wait to make something!
