If you follow me on Instagram (you do, don’t you?) you’ve probably noticed these two hashtags on almost every picture I’ve posted this year. Right after I announced my intentional word for the year (read that here) my crafty author friend, Sarah from Our Daily Craft, challenged me to a #yearofmaking-making something, anything once a day for an entire year. Sounded intimidating but doable.
The actual words are more challenging than the act. I generally go into the craft room everyday anyway. Sometimes, though, I take one look at my messy table, turn around, and leave immediately. The challenge for me is not only finding workspace but figuring out what to make. I’m working through that though. I’ve decided that if there isn’t something I’m already working on I’ll work with whatever is left on the table; could be scraps of felt; could be decorating projects for the craft room (still have stuff to make and hang for the walls); could be something quick and easy that I’ve spotted online.
My goal for this challenge is to not over think it. I am not trying to re-invent the crafty wheel-at least not for this. Eventually I will start thinking about creating original crafty art, but in the beginning, this #yearofmaking will be about creating a habit of crafting.
For #yearofmaking I will:
*make* every day.
*try* new mediums (paints, mists, color!)
*learn* new techniques (stamping, mixed media)
*be* gentle with myself if I mess up.
It’s time to dig in and make.
