I often look back at my high school and college days with a yearning for a those simpler days when even those in charge knew the importance of a much needed break; Christmas break, winter break, spring break, and most enjoyably, summer break- two and a half months of summer bliss with no responsibilities. As an adult, I get to enjoy these kind of breaks, too, but in a much less, limited fashion- four weeks paid vacation. I’ve always thought this was a generous benefit and perhaps with a little better planning, I’d be better able to appreciate and take advantage of that vacation time over the course of the whole year. As it is, I usually take the time allotted during the summer months and in close intervals so that, by the end of the year, I am out of vacay time and struggling to make it through the winter months until it rolls over again.
However, these last four winters I’ve been in Ark, I’ve enjoyed an additional {unpaid} break. When Ark experiences even the slightest of snow “events” I am forced to stay home, cozy up, and ride out the event. Even when said event is a mere three inches of snow and ice that lasts no more than two days, tops.
And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing these last three days. Baking up a storm. Cooking meals. Surfing the web. Connecting with friends and fam via FB. Making plans for Spring. Longing for Summer. Waiting for sunshine.
It’s been a most enjoyable Winter break!

The potato looks fantastic. Sliced with butter and kosher salt? Baked that way? Should I search for Hasselbeck potatoes? Yum! Great blog and lovely pics.

So true – we don't know what to do with snow and especially ice – ha! I linked to your blog today because I loved your idea for the Hawthorne Hurricane – too cute!
You take fabulous photos! I would love to feature you if you have a hurricane about your home and want to implement your idea.
