I’d been away from Michigan a whole 4 months. It was the longest stretch since I’ve been here {almost 11 months now…can you believe how fast time flies?}. Each time I get ready for the trip back home I mentally begin to jot down all the things I want to do, things I want to see, tastes I want to experience again.
I’ve definitely started to want to spend more time with my Mom. I think I took her companionship for granted when I lived a few miles away. On the flight back to Arkansas last week, I was chuckling at myself as I remembered when Mom was driving out to Montague to show me their new house at the campground at Meinert. I had cried because she was moving so far away. A whopping 26 minutes away. So, each time I make it home, I SO appreciate our time together. Monday {the night before my flight back to Ark} we went to lunch with cousin {Lois} at one of my fave places: Panera Bread. We hit Scrapbook 101 and browsed supplies. We hung out at Tyler’s football practice, and then we spent an hour or so down by Lake Michigan, walking the channel and talking. It felt good. Extremely good.
The other {things-to-do} items on my mental list were trivial things like shopping at Meijer and JoAnn Fabrics….eating Scrib’s pizza {missed out on it this time, though}, and not-so-trivial things like: spending time with Tyler {also didn’t get nearly enough of him this trip 🙁 } and seeing my brothers and Dalani. I did get to share some quality time with the new dog, Abbi, and the old dog Maggie. I took a million pictures of each of them. Funny. Even the animals are starting to look at me wearily when they see me coming with the camera.
Knowing that I’d be back in less than a month made leaving a little easier. I’m back to counting down the days and mentally re-writing that {to-do} list.
