It’s true. No one writes letters anymore. Except, maybe, for my Mom. She’s always sending notes and cards via snail mail…but not letters. No one does. Not real letters, at least. Letters detailing day to day life. Letters expressing feelings and emotions, thoughts and dreams. No one I know has the time or energy to sit down and put pen to paper. Or maybe they’re just not writing to me? Hmmmm…something to think about!
Email is efficient. It is fast and usually readily available to most of us. Most of us sit down numerous times throughout a single day and tap away at the keys, but still, we’re in a hurry to get things done, get things researched, or to get the bills paid online. I am so guilty of spending hours too numerous and embarrassing to count sitting in front of the monitor, and still find it hard to type out quick notes of ‘hello’ to friends and family.
I’m making a conscience effort to change this about me. Yesterday, I sat down to write real letters. I had no idea what to write about {much the same as when I sit here to type up a blog post!}. I wrote six letters. Short, two page letters describing the weather, what I’ve been up to {hence the shortness of the letters}, how much I’m liking Arkansas, and so on. I tried to include a paragraph or two on how much the person meant to me…or about something unique I remember about that person. I chose a couple people who will probably be surprised to hear from me, especially via a hand written letter.

I still have some letters that were written to me by my BFF right after high school when she moved away and got married. I also used to have a stash of love letters written to my by my first serious boyfriend in high school, but sadly I threw them away because my first husband was jealous that I kept them. I still regret that (throwing the letters away as well as marrying that idiot! LOL)

I am chuckling out loud Alison. Sadly, I can’t remember any letters that have been written to me. But then again, I have a TERRRIBLE memory!

Bob and I have tons of love letters going back and forth while he was in the Army. Also before my little sister became a teenager she, and I used to write the occasional letter. Some of Bob’s letters from me included a lot of “sitting in class bored wish I was done with school, I love you and miss you so much”. I think letter writing helps a couple that are divided by distance keep bonded!!
