…deleting the campground blog since Mom & Dad are no longer managing there. There were a couple posts I wrote that I’d like to save for posterity….so I’m saving them here 🙂 Hope you enjoy.

I started camping with my grandparents when I was 3 years old. I traveled all over Michigan with them, although my childish mind and imagination took me all the way to Florida and back. My favorite memories are the summers spent at P.J. Hoffmaster on the shore of Lake Michigan in Muskegon. My grandpa and I used to take long walks on the trails through the park. My grandpa was such a kidder…he was always pointing out things that weren’t really there. Somehow I could always see them. Especially the gators. The aligators in the creek on the way to the beach were as real to me then as they were when I was 18 and in Florida for real, seeing aligators for the first time.
I stopped camping with my grandparents when I was 14 or 15 when being a teenager became complicated. I struggled with juggling cheerleading camp and band camp with trying to manage family obligations, like camping. And now, in adulthood, working full time with bills to pay, it’s even harder to get out and enjoy the campgrounds and the lake. The Pines really has been a great experience for me and my family. Seeing the families at the park together, going to the beach, and grandparents with their grandchildren has really brought back memories of my own childhood. I hope you’re enjoying the experience as much as I do. And…beware of the gators…I know they’re out there…because my grandpa told me so.
