June 12th
The morning begins with continental breakfast…cornflakes and
warm
milk. So Heather and I walk to a little Patisserie to load up on
muffins,
eclairs and water before heading out on a bus tour of the city. Our driver takes us to the the Left Bank where we see Luxomberg Palace,
the
Pantheon, and Saint Sulpice Church (featured in The DaVinci Code).
The streets of Paris are so narrow and filled with tiny cars, huge tour
buses, motorbikes, and bicyclists. The locals don’t even flinch as buses
pass right by, only inches from their shoulders. Drivers are aggressive
and the air is filled with car horns and impatient shouts from drivers.….In the afternoon we are driven down the Champs de Elysses…it isn’t
what I thought it would be. The street is filled with stores, cinemas,
restaurants, and is lined with trees. At the end of the street is the
piazza/square where Marie Antoinette was beheaded.
We circle around the
Plaza Charles De Gaulle and the Arc d’Triumphe and
head toward the Louvre.
Cornflakes and warm milk? I thought all the food in Paris was gourmet? Personally, I think it was the hotel’s jibe at us Americans and our lack of culinary greatness compared to theirs. hrrrmmmppphhh.
Anyway…the eclairs and muffins we bought from the patisserie next door were suberb. Wish I’d taken more pictures of stuff like that.
Here are some notes I scribbled from our tour of the Left Bank…and our tour guide Evelyn.
Thanks for taking the time to share my memories 🙂
