I’ve always liked rainy days. I like the sound of rain hitting the window, the splash of tires driving through puddles, and big, fat raindrops sliding off the end of my nose. I love curling up with a good book…a cup of tea, latte, or hot cocoa and listening to the world go on outside in the rain..covered by slickers and umbrellas. Rainy days are usually chilly…perfect weather for comfort foods: corn chowder…tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, homemade mac & cheese. These kind of days inspire me to wear fuzzy socks…a sweater…or maybe just my pajamas all day long. Sometimes I skip the book and pop in a movie that I’ve seen a thousand times over…You’ve Got Mail, One Fine Day, Gone With the Wind and curl up on the couch and take a nappy. Rainy days are no-make-up-days, don’t-do-your-hair days, and paint-your-nails days. They’re great days for getting in touch with friends I haven’t talked to in awhile…or snuggling into the bestest place in the world…my bed…snuggled deep into the blankets….nestled against a mountain of pillows and having the fifth conversation of the day with Thom. I love rainy days. Even more so when they’re Mondays. The dreaded going-back-to-work day. The nothing-goes-right day. The day you lock you keys in the car…or get a reminder notice for a bill you forgot to pay…or forget to take back your already overdue library books day.
But…what I love best about Rainy days and Mondays is knowing that tomorrow will be sunny..and dry…and Tuesday…and the week will go on and the weather will get better…or (being Michigan, after all) it won’t…and that’s a great excuse to stay in bed and appreciate the gloomy weather that’ll make way for sunny days, eventually.
